Red Sox 2004 ALCS Champs!
I heard it from a number of people, well, mostly the stupid ass Fox commentators and my family in New York. That, after the first three games, there was no way the Sox would win the ALCS, that hope was lost, and that New York was getting prepared to make, yet another, World Series appearance. But, I sit here now in post victory glow and I know that the Red Sox managed to do something last night that no team in baseball, basketball, or any other sport, other than hockey, has done in all of sports history.
Can I get an hallellujiah!?
What a hell of a comeback, huh. I'm still incredibly excited, but I can't say that "I don't believe it happened!", because I really do believe. I knew from the beginning, had a feeling in my stomach, that they would do well and ultimately triumph over the Yankees. Even when we were down three games to nothing I wasn't scared, upset, or mad; I just believed. I believed in the heart of my team, the quality of the players, and how deserving they were of the pennant.
In short, I had faith. The rest was up to God, but I think that I, along with the rest of Red Sox nation, simply "kept the faith", so to speak, and, holy shit, were we ever rewarded last night.
You know what the funny thing is, I, of course, called my cousin in NY who is a Yankees fan (I love her dearly.) to brag and instead of being an obnoxious twit, I mostly just felt bad for her. I could relate all to well to the sadness she felt and how disappointed she was that the Yankees didn't win. Crap, I go through that almost every other season. So, though I did mention the fact that I thought "Johnny got the hair out of eyes." and asked "Who's your Papi?", I couldn't bring myself to rub it in anymore, because I've been there and I know how sad it is.
So all the other Red Sox fans and I will be celebrating, catching up on sleep too as we are all utterly exhausted, until Saturday and then we'll be getting back down to business for the World Series (at Fenway!).
Wow. World Series. At Fenway. Amazing.
Oh, and I'm going to keep the faith. I believe in this team and all the wonderful things they can accomplish and, you know, I think God might be changing out of the pinstripes and into some red, white, and blue.
He may just be a Sox fan afterall...
